Unlike million years ago in the time of the prophets, we live in an era where believer “see” with faith not eyes, thus the way we communicate with  God is through prayers not as lucky as Moses did back then with a more of face to face method which actually more convenient somehow. College students are well known for being frugal and it makes sense. It's just common for them to attend college in a different city, or even country. Thus they have to manage living alone with only pocket money from their parents and in certain circumstances plus some extra money from part time work.
